The Pearl by John Steinbeck

the pearl is the retelling of an old mexican folk tale about a pearl and how it was found and changed, drastically, the lives of those who found it. as with eoe, john steinbeck creates beautiful images and leaves us with some wonderful lines to gobble up. my favorite line came from page 5 and it said "It was a morning like other mornings and yet perfect among mornings". that line spoke leagues to me.
i have a nice stack of steinbeck's next to my bed and i am excited to read them all.

East of Eden by John Steinbeck

the reading binge came to an abrupt halt when i saw the size of this novel. i had to read it for school, and by george, it is large. i read 100 pages a day, and finished in 6 days; quite the novel. it kicked my butt, and i loved every second of it.
this book, east of eden, needs to be renamed to the life book because it taught me so much about my life, my mind, my world. this story is absolutely timeless.
