the pearl is the retelling of an old mexican folk tale about a pearl and how it was found and changed, drastically, the lives of those who found it. as with eoe, john steinbeck creates beautiful images and leaves us with some wonderful lines to gobble up. my favorite line came from page 5 and it said "It was a morning like other mornings and yet perfect among mornings". that line spoke leagues to me. i have a nice stack of steinbeck's next to my bed and i am excited to read them all.
